Ayurveda

 

 

    Ayurveda is considered as the upaveda (subsection) of Atharvaveda. The Ayurvedic knowledge is a gift to the whole mankind. Our Creator imparted it to human beings through ancient messengers and sages. The Vedas namely Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda and Atharvaveda has various quotes related to Ayurveda.

 Ayurveda is divided into eight branches for easy understanding. They are namely,

·         Kayachikitsa ( General medicine)

·         Balachikitsa or Kaumarabruthya ( Pediatrics)

·         Gruha chikitsa or Manasika chikitsa ( Mind related disorder treatment department similar to psychiatry)

·         Urdhwanga chikitsa or Salakya Tantra ( Diseases above head treatment department equivalent to ENT department)

·         Shalya Chikitsa ( Surgery)

·         Dhamshtra chikitsa or Visha chikitsa ( Toxicology )

·         Jara Chikitsa ( Geriatrics) and

·         Vrisha chikitsa or Vajikaranam ( Aphrodisiac treatment)

Etymology of Ayurveda

 Ayurveda is a combination of two words , Ayuh and Veda

The word Ayuh means Life and Veda means Knowledge. The knowledge about life is called as Ayurveda.

The definition of Life or Ayuh

 The union of Sareera( body), Indriya( sense organs), Satva or Mana (mind) and Atma (soul) is called as Life or Ayuh[VRR1] . According to Ayurveda Ayuh never ends because soul is eternal.

Definition of Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a measure for attaining Purusharthas - Dharma ( Righteousness),  Artha ( Monetary benefits),  Kama ( Desires)  and Moksha ( Liberation of Soul)  through Health. Ayurveda teaches the method of attaining health.

 Ayurveda is the science that deals with four types of Ayuh or Life namely,

·         Hitayu. (benevolent life)

·         Ahitayu. (malevolent life)

·         Sukhayu ( Happy life)

·         Dukhayu ( Unhappy life)

  Ayurveda is a measurement explaining the advantages and disadvantages of the above mentioned four types of life. Ayurveda teaches the meaning of life. It is the only knowledge which gives equal importance to the soul, mind and body. Follow Ayurveda to get rid of all diseases of mind and body. An individual who follows Ayurveda will have a soul moving towards the goal of "Ultimate Liberation".
